Love your newly lasered skin!

So you have taken the leap and started your laser tattoo removal treatments with us.

One of the most important parts of your removal journey is the aftercare – what you do with it once you leave our clinic.

Initially the Laser Tattoo Removal treatment may create a minor superficial wound and it needs to be cared for properly to avoid any chance of infection.

Here are some of the key things you will need to keep in mind post-treatment that will keep your skin clean & healthy, giving you the best outcome for your complete removal or lightening process.

What we recommend:

During the first 24 hours

-Your LaserTat technician will talk you through the correct aftercare practices directly after your treatment and provide you with a take home print out.

-After 2-3 hours post treatment, gently remove the bandage. Wash with an antibacterial soap and warm water and gently pat dry the area. Be cautious of temperate – showering is absolutely fine but please make sure the temperature is not too hot on the treated area.

-Apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment such as our recommended Skinstitute LaserAid 1-2 times a day.

-Most clients may experience bruising or swelling and the area may feel like a light sunburn. A cold compress can be used during this time to relieve any inflammation, swelling or discomfort.

-If the area is a lower leg (Especially ankle or foot) elevate the area as much as possible for the next 24-48 hours.

-Some clients may then go on to develop blisters, crusts, or scabs within 12-72 hours, which may last for 1-2 weeks or more. This is all part of the healing process yet not all clients will get this initial reaction. Everyone is completely different!

Over the next 2- 21 days

-Continue to keep the area clean and dry while it is healing. This included avoiding all spas, pools or saunas & intense physical activity to reduce the chance of infection

-If you did develop blisters or scabbing DO NOT pick, pop any blisters or touch the area unnecessarily. The fluid in blisters is actually there to help heal the underlying layers of skin.

- Avoid direct or prolonged exposure to the sun. Getting sunburned on your laser treatment area is a really bad idea. Avoid all tanning products until the area is fully healed. Now is a good time to embrace your natural skin colour!

- Avoid shaving over the treated area. This can irritate the area and set your healing time back.

- Drink lots of water! It’s good for you & helps hydrate the skin which can promote faster healing.

-Pay attention to your lasered area and remember we are here to help!

If it looks aggravated or not as we have advised, or if you have any questions or concerns after your treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

How to feel CONFIDENT going into your next laser session

We get a lot of clients feeling really anxious about the thought of a laser tattoo removal session and we totally understand - it’s not the easiest of things to get done!
BUT… we are about to let you in on some really useful tips you can do before, during and after your appointment and also some helpful information to keep in mind that will leave you feeling extra confident and ready for your next laser treatment.

Before your laser appointment:

Eat and drink before hand
It doesn’t have to be a full meal or a full 600ml, just a snack & some sips of water before your appointment. It will make your treatment a lot easier. If this tip slips your mind we have lollies, biscuits, bottled water & soft drink available for you to treat yourself with.

Numb it!
There are certainly some spots that are more painful than others.
Numbing cream is available from your local pharmacy but will need to be applied 2 hours prior to your appointment. Come in with it on and we can clean it all up for you beforehand.

Book in early and get it out the way
Ever thought about an appointment first thing in the morning?
By doing it early in the day, it is all over and done with so you can get on with your day.
You could even treat yourself with lunch or a coffee afterwards. You deserve it!

Come in feeling fresh
Make sure you’ve had a good night sleep and have been looking after yourself.
For the ladies – make sure it’s not ‘that time of month’ as you can be extra sensitive.

Do your research
Head over to our website! It has loads of before and afters, helpful videos on how laser works, FAQ’s and more. Sometimes the more you know what to expect the better you will feel.

We even have our own YouTube channel where you can watch plenty of our laser videos in real time!

During your laser appointment:

Take breaks if you need
This is YOUR appointment so we go at YOUR pace!
Some clients like to get it out the way all in one go and some clients like to have multiple breathers in between. We are all about making it as comfortable for you as possible so don’t hesitate to tell us what you prefer.

Bring in your headphones, zone out and listen to your favourite track..
The treatment will probably be over by the time you get to the chorus but hey if it keeps you distracted we are all for it :D

Treat yourself
Grab a lolly or chewing gum on your way in, if you’re a clencher we also have stress balls which you can squeeze the life out of.

After your laser appointment:

Follow your aftercare instructions
We always run through exactly how to care for your freshly lasered tattoo and also provide it in written form for you to take home. It’s super important to follow these guidelines to ensure a speedy healing time. We are always available for any questions during this time and encourage clients to keep us updated on the progress. Trust us.. we get as excited as you do to see your tattoo fade away! – some may say we are a little obsessed with what we do!

Follow up SMS
The week following your very first treatment we like to check up on you to make sure you are doing just fine and the tattoo is healing well. Also gives you another opportunity to check in and ask any questions you may have.

Things to know:

The best thing to keep in mind is most people do leave feeling so much better at the end of a session. A lot of people talk it up to be such a bad experience but by following these simple tips it can actually be a lot easier than you think.

Once it is all over you don’t have to see us again for 6-8 weeks (longer if you want!)

The treatments are always super quick. Usually over within minutes. You can watch any of our online videos to check out just how fast the treatments are.

All of us at LaserTat have had laser before and know exactly what you are feeling.
Chat to us, talk it through if you want.
We are always here for you!

Why do I need to fade my tattoo for a cover up?

Imagine being able to get something you have always wanted… Your DREAM TATTOO!
Well fading your unwanted tattoo is the first step.

Using laser tattoo removal to fade your old tattoo frees up your choices and gives you a wider range of choices for colour, design, size and density for your future tattoo design. It is in many cases best to start again with the cleanest canvas possible and therefore fading an unwanted tattoo ready for a cover up is the preferred choice for most tattoo artists. Remember, laser tattoo removal isn’t only for regretful tattoos! It can be used to lighten up part of a tattoo prior to adding more detail or colours, even just a touch up.

Laser may cost you a little more and it will take a little longer to get your tattoo but it will open up so many more doors for you design-wise. If you’re compromising on design and getting a tattoo you don’t REALLY love over something you already hate, you may never be happy with the cover up outcome. Always start with the end in mind!

Many artists recommend laser before starting a cover up as they too want to give their clients the best possible tattoo without compromising their own quality of work. Of course there are some cases where cover ups are achievable without laser but we always recommend having an in depth discussion with the artist of choice about what it is you are wanting to cover with. From here they will be able to advise the best course of action. It is so important to do your research at this point and find an artist suited to the style you are after.  – We are always here to help with this if you get stuck as we have a wide industry knowledge of which artists in SA are suited to certain styles of tattooing. Don’t hesitate to ask at any time!

At LaserTat we love seeing our clients achieve the tattoo they have always dreamt of. We try our absolute hardest to make something you thought was impossible, POSSIBLE!
To do this we continually research the newest techniques in all aspects of laser tattoo removal and aftercare. This allows us to be focused and strive for the best possible service & results for our clients.

To see examples of our clients cover ups, head over to or look in our Facebook photo album. We are very proud of our results!

If you’d like to come in and discuss your options further, feel free to contact us through our consult request form on our website or 0421132734.

Summer ready!

Having a laser treatment over the summer doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying your summer. With the weather warming up (FINALLY) and the festive season upon us we just want to give everyone a little reminder of your laser aftercare so you can still enjoy the outdoors and take care of your treated area:

Slip, Slop, Slap:

Remember Sid the Seagull? Well he knows what’s up when out in the sun.

Slip on clothing that is going to protect your tattoo

Slop on some SPF30 or higher

Slap on a hat

Fun in the sun:

Yes I know we live in Australia & boy does it get warm. But try to avoid direct sun exposure, hot tubs, pool water and salt water as much as possible until the area is healed. Generally 7-10 days. In between treatments you don’t have to completely hide away to protect the treated area, simply keep the area protected with sunscreen or clothing when out in the sun for long periods of time.

Doing it for the tan:

No active tan, self-tanner, bronzers or spray tan for 7 days after your last treatment. If this is unavoidable, pop a bit of Vaseline over the tattoo and wipe off after you have applied your tan. And of course in between treatments you can tan as much as you like, just be sure to make sure there is no tan left on the treated area when it comes around to your next appointment.

Drink for your ink:

Yes I know we say this all of the time but, drink LOTS of water! This not only rehydrates your skin but helps flush the ink particles through your system. This therefor helps your tattoo fade YAY!

… So there you have it! You can still enjoy your summer and continue treatments without having to hide away from the sun by following our easy to follow recommendations!

Remember if you have any questions or concerns over summer you can always contact us on Facebook, email or flick us a message on 0421132734.

We are here for you even over the festive season!

Zoe's Zap Tips

Hi Guys,

Zoe here.

We all know getting that tattoo you no longer love zapped isn’t the easiest task you will have to face but at least it is quick!

After being a client with LaserTat since the very start of 2015 & an employee since middle of 2015 I have had plenty of time to come up with some top tips for coping during you tattoo removal treatment so here goes:

  • Please eat!
It doesn’t have to be a full meal, just even a snack before your appointment. When you have an empty stomach & endure laser treatments you tend to get light-headed. If this tip slips your mind we have lollies, fruit & biscuits available for you to treat yourself with.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
We have water on hand if you feel you haven’t had enough. Water is so important as it flushes the ink particles through your system.
  • Wear loose fitted clothing.
There is nothing worse than having your clothes rub on your freshly lasered area! OUCH
  • Ask questions.
Ask as many questions as you need to. This helps ease the mind and makes you feel more comfortable with the treatment at hand. We are happy to chat as much as you need.
You not only need to do this to live, but it is especially important to do so during your treatment. Holding your breath does not help anyone & only makes you light headed.
  • Keep that mind occupied.
Wiggle your toes, sing a tune, chat our ear off, watch YouTube, scroll social media do anything you can to keep your mind occupied. We even have stress balls to squeeze the life out of. You will be amazed with how well this works!
  • Tell us if you need a break.
You can take as many breaks as you need. We go at your pace so please do not feel the need to rush! We would prefer to stop for a breather rather than you jumping and potentially effecting your surrounding tattoos.
  • Numb if you need to!
Look, there are some spots that are more painful than others.
Numbing cream is available from your local pharmacist but will need to be applied 2 hours prior to your appointment. Come in with it on and we can clean it all up for you beforehand.

Remember if you have any questions or concerns prior to your treatment you can always contact us on Facebook, email or sms 0421132734

Why now is the best time to start laser!

Now the weather is finally cooling down (hooray! – I’m sure you’ll hear me complain it’s too cold soon) there is no better time to start your laser tattoo removal journey.

In our experience it is much more comfortable & easier for our clients to manage the healing process when the weather is cooler.

Why you ask? Here are 4 key reasons!

1.       The treated area has to be protected from direct sun exposure, spas, baths, pool water, river & salt water as much as possible until the area is healed. As you can imagine, this is much easier to do in the winter months because usually the area is already covered by clothing and there is much less sun exposure and swimming going on.

2.       We also like to treat as much as possible on your natural skin tone to avoid seeing any hypo or hyperpigmentation (darkening or lightening of the skin) which can occur if the area is heavily tanned or in the sun after treatments. We do have some clients that like to take a few months off to enjoy the sunshine and recommence laser when it cools down for this exact reason.

3.       After laser tattoo removal the area will generally feel like a sunburn. This is much easier to manage in the cooler months when we aren’t already sun bitten, hot & sweaty. This summer has been a long one and I know all our current clients are looking forward to treating on those cooler days!

4.       If we start NOW it means in some cases your tattoo will be faded and ready for your brand new cover up tattoo to be shown off by the time Summer rolls around again
- OR if aiming for complete removal it also gives you a great head start if we commence in Winter. Your unwanted tattoo will be considerably less noticeable & faded before you start peeling back those layers of clothing when it warms up again.

And finally, if this information doesn’t give you the push you need then how about $20 off of your first treatment? - Simply mention this blog when you come in for your discount to be applied.

Alright, I think we have given you enough reasons why Winter is the perfect time to be lasering. We’d love to help you on your journey to getting rid of an unwanted tattoo. It’s what we are passionate about and we care.

If you would like to know more or to schedule in a free consultation you can contact us at or head over to & fill in a consult form.
